LGC Water Projects
The Local Government Commission currently has two projects linking land use planning and water resources. The first is called "Addressing the Disconnect: Water Resources and Local Land Use Decisions." Under this project we developed the Ahwahnee Water Principles for Resource-Efficient Land Use, and a guidebook and fact sheets to help local governments adopt and implement them. We also are hosting a series of workshops on the Principles.
Our other project, "Aligning Land Use and Water Quality Protection," has us working with local governments, water agencies of all types, and local residents and businesses to enhance the protection of water resources through better, more coordinated land use decisions. This project is focusing on Amador and Calaveras Counties, and on Ventura County.
LGC recently collaborated with the Sierra Nevada Alliance to develop a guidebook for watershed-friendly land use planning and development practices in the Sierra Nevada region. Click here to download a copy. For a hard copy call the Sierra Nevada Alliance at 530-542-4546.
This page provides links to tools from across the country that will help you in your land use and watershed planning efforts. Each listing includes a brief description and a link to the resource.
The First Stop Shop for Water Resources is partnership between the Local Government Commission, California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) and the CALFED Bay-Delta Authority (CBDA). Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the SWRCB.
