About The First Stop Shop for Water Resources
About LGC's First Stop Shop for Water Resources
Cities and counties face major challenges with water contamination, storm water runoff, flood damage liability, and concerns about whether there will be enough reliable water for current residents as well as for new development. These issues impact city and county budgets and taxpayers. Fortunately there are a number of stewardship actions that cities and counties can take that reduce costs and improve the reliability and quality of our water resources.
California's rapidly growing population is bringing the issue of water sustainability – ensuring we have enough clean water now and in the future – to the forefront. Even as we confront the great challenge of providing water for growth, the impacts of fast-paced development are impairing our water resources; undermining efforts for sustainability. Stricter regulations, tight budgets, and mounting environmental impacts all stress the need for solutions.
What is the FSSWR?
The First Stop Shop for Water Resources is a clearinghouse for information and resources related to the co-management of land and water resources.
The site provides a range of valuable resources to help users navigate and better understand the complex world of water in California. Relevant information is available for different needs and levels of expertise, from news and basic fact sheets explaining the most relevant issues of the day, to in-depth research findings, and specific policy language.
Who Should Use the FSSWR?
The Local Government Commission has a history of working with elected officials at the city and county level and information on the site will prove very useful for them to understand how different land use decisions can affect water resources. Planners, engineers, and other municipal staff will also find resources to keep current with regulatory requirements, innovative design ideas, and economical solutions to common problems.
Community leaders, developers, and anyone else interested in making land use more water-friendly will find a host of valuable information as well.
What Can I Find When I Come to the FSSWR?
There are hundreds of sites with tons of information about water resources dispersed over the internet. It can be hard to wade through all that information and find exactly what you need, so we do it for you.
This site is dedicated to providing the most relevant, up-to-date, and useful information and putting it all in one place that is easy to navigate so you can find what you need when you need it.
The First Stop Shop for Water Resources is partnership between the Local Government Commission, California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) and the CALFED Bay-Delta Authority (CBDA). Funding for this project is provided by a grant from the SWRCB.
